Background
This article outlines the process for deploying a NintexTest and/or NintexSupport virtual machine.
NintexTest and NintexSupport VM Deployments
Go to https://vmcontrol.nintex.com and sign in with your Nintex credentials.
Select “Virtual Machine Manager” and allow access to local resources when prompted.
When asked to select a user role select the NintexTest or NintexSupport user role, whichever is assigned to you.
When selecting the cloud in the left-hand pane, then Overview in the ribbon you will see the Cloud quota and usage.
To deploy a new machine, select “Create Service” on the top left of the page.
Select “Browse” on the next window.
Select the virtual machine you require, the names indicate Role, Region, Version.
Provide a unique name for the service to be deployed, the destination cloud will be correct by default.
On the next window do not change any settings, just select “Deploy Service” for the deployment to start.
Confirm that you want to deploy the service.
On the Jobs window that opens, the deployment will be on 99% for quite a while. This is the customization step.
Once the service instance creation is successful (+- 30 minutes) your machine is ready.
NOTE: If creation fails the virtual machine might still be accessible, but will not work as expected. Delete the failed service instance and deploy a new one. To ensure compliance all failed services which includes the virtual machines which failed deployment will automatically be deleted on a daily basis.
If you right click your machine NintexTest0021.NintexTest.com in this example you will have options of managing checkpoints, starting, and shutting down the machine, connecting via RDP or Console etc.
Note: Do not select Create Clone as this will break the virtual machine.
To delete a virtual machine, you must delete the service as shown below. It will delete the service, virtual machine, and hard disks. If you only delete the virtual machine, it will leave the service in an error state.
Once your quota has been reached you will either not be able to deploy a new machine, or create additional checkpoints, or both. The overview tab will show the details of your quota used and available.
Each user can create a maximum of 3 virtual machines with 5 checkpoints each. The amount of checkpoints work on a sliding scale, if you have no checkpoints on 2 of your virtual machines you can have 15 checkpoints on virtual machine 3 for example.
All virtual machines shut down automatically on Sundays at 6PM. This prevents unnecessary strain on infrastructure resources where virtual machines are running, but not being used. If you have a specific need for a virtual machine to stay running please log a Zendesk request with the details of the virtual machine and the service it is providing.
To access SharePoint or OWA you can use the bookmarks bar in Chrome.
You can share a virtual machine with other members in your region and team. To do this follow the procedure below.
Select the deployed service.
Right click and select properties.
On the Access tab select Add...
Choose select.
Type in the name of the person you would like to share your virtual machine with, then click Check Names.
On the next window there can be multiple accounts listed, select the person's normal Nintex account.
Select the User Role and click OK.
The next window will show with whom your virtual machine has been shared, click OK.
